How to style your favorite college gear

With March Madness quickly approaching, getting dressed to cheer on our beloved Cyclones can get dull if you only wear a T-shirt and jeans. Whether you are a die-hard basketball fan or just there for the good company, you will need a few foolproof outfit ideas to get you through March. No matter where or how you cheer, these easy style tips will upcycle your gear and show you how to achieve a game day look you never knew was possible.

If you are wearing a jersey, spice it up with a navy relaxed blazer. Jerseys tend to be boxy and swallow your frame. Blazers add much needed shape to the look. A navy color will allow you to avoid the basic black without having to wear another team’s colors. Jerseys tend to be expensive, so look for a larger size in kids. It is half the price and you will still be able to show school spirit. Pair it with jeans and leopard flats along with simple, sparkly jewelry for some girlish charm.

If a T-shirt is the way you roll, swap out your jeans for an unexpected pair of silk pants in either a small print or a solid bold color. This will allow you to dress your tee up while still being able to move around comfortably. Tuck a corner of the shirt into the pants to add interest.

The chilly Midwest weather doesn’t always allow for lightweight gear, so a sweatshirt is the only option. To avoid looking sloppy, contrast the coziness with leather leggings and booties. This allows you to bring the look from day to night. A glam necklace will break up the edge and dress up the casual. Tie a jacket around your waist to bring the whole look together.

Another way to break away from the usual T-shirt and jeans is to wear a skirt. You can still wear your favorite tee and stay casual by revamping it with a skirt instead. Wear a moto jacket on top to keep you warm.

Take a tip from the boys and wear a button down under your jersey. This easygoing style is the best way to find the in-between of being serious about the game, but also showing you are there to have fun. It is also a comfortable combination to wear to a game with jeans and a pair of flats. You will be on your feet most of the time, so comfort is essential. Polish it off with a statement necklace and you will be ready to cheer on the Cyclones!
