The No. 32 ISU women’s golf team (Golfweek/Golfstat) tied for fifth place out of 18 teams at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla. Senior Chonlada Chayanun entered the final round tied for first place, but it was freshman Celia Barquin who would lead the Cyclones for the tournament. Here are five takeaways from the Cyclones’ fifth-place finish.

– By finishing in a tie for sixth place at the UCF Challenge, freshman Celia Barquin recorded her second top-10 finish in five events. She has led or co-led Iowa State in four events.

– Before the UCF Challenge, Barquin was ranked No. 45 in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings. With a top-10 finish, Barquin has a chance to climb into the top 40.

– Chonlada Chayanun had one of her best chances to notch her maiden collegiate victory. The senior was tied for first place heading into the final round, but an 81 derailed her chances and dropped her to a tie for 24th place.

– All five ISU starters contributed at least one qualifying score, with Barquin, Chayanun and Cajsa Persson contributing in all three rounds.

– Iowa State improved its season record to 48-28-1, but its struggles against top-25 competition continued. The Cyclones went 1-3 against the four top-25 teams in the field and are now 3-18 on the season.
