Take risks in fashion

Rachel Geronimo

Most of the trending fashion and beauty photos on social media sites like Instagram are probably a lot more bold than what students usually look like on a daily basis. There are times when people finds themselves thinking that they can’t pull off these trends or they don’t even consider doing something risky. As the first month of the new year ends, add another quick resolution to the list. Here are eight daring risks that individuals try for this upcoming year:

Wear Black or Dark Lipstick

Go bold or go home. This is a beauty statement that is trending in the fashion industry. It’s not only trending on the street, but it’s very chic and seen on many runways. Consider sporting a dark lip color in everyday wear. Play with different dark shades of lip tints to create dimension in a makeup look.

Wear heels to class

Don’t worry what others have to say. Wearing heels for no occasion to school is a great way to boost diversity in a wardrobe. If height is something you worry about, take baby steps. Start by wearing heels that are shorter, then in time, wear taller heels. This gives individuals a chance to slowly transition in to wearing heels that are higher than their comfort zone.

Change of hair

Take a risk and rock a hairstyle that is new. Whether it’s dying it a crazy color, cutting it in a unique style or styling it in a particular way, take the challenge to do something different. Don’t shy away from experimenting with multiple trends. People will never know they like it until they try.

Don’t Wear Make Up

For most people this might be a challenge. Society sometimes portrays beauty in makeup, but beauty lies in who we are naturally. It’s hard to show a bare face, but don’t be afraid to show off your natural beauty once in a while. Take at least one day of not wearing makeup in public or take baby steps and apply less makeup than usual. Remember that less is more when it comes to makeup. Don’t be scared from showing natural beauty.

Denim on denim

This is a fashion statement that most people are scared to rock, but it’s a trend that has been around for years. When following this trend, play with different shades by pairing light denims with dark denims. Keep the outfit simple and avoid weighing the outfit down with multiple accessories.

Have a monochromatic outfit

A monochromatic outfit is a great option and easier than one would think. Try sporting the same hue in different intensities and tones. For example, wear a bright red staple piece and pair it with different clothing articles that are darker shades of red. This gives complexity to an outfit and shows diversity in the look.

Color blocking

Whether it’s in an outfit or makeup routine, color blocking is a fun way to add dimension to a look. Use colors schemes that are either complementary or analogous. Finish off the look with some layered accessories.

Bralette versus bra

This is definitely a fashion risk most individuals are afraid of. There is a huge difference between a bralette and a bra. Bralettes are made to be fashionable and have little support. Bras are meant to be worn as a support system and will most likely have less design appeal than a bralette. Don’t be afraid to incorporate this staple piece into a wardrobe. Bralettes are versatile, so wear them with a sheer top.
