Poor shooting leads to another loss for ISU women’s basketball

The Lowdown

The ISU women’s basketball team’s struggles continued Feb. 14 as the Cyclones (15-9, 6-7 Big 12) fell to the Cowgirls (16-8, 6-7 Big 12).

The Cyclones have now lost five of their last six games. Getting shots up was not a problem for the team. Making them, however, was a different story. Iowa State made just 18 of 69 shot attempts.

After shooting 30 percent in the first half, the Cyclones struggled even more in the second half, as their field goal percentage declined to 23.1 percent.

The Cyclones got off to a rough start, as the Cowgirls got out to a 12-3 lead. Iowa State was able to recoup from the sluggish start and down just four at the half.

Oklahoma State scored five quick points to start the second half. After the Cowgirls pushed their lead to 10, Iowa State was able to cut it to three before Oklahoma State pulled away again.

The Cyclones cut it to four once more, but Oklahoma State responded with a 10-2 run to effectively end the game.

X-Factor

Nikki Moody was a bright spot for the Cyclones, as she poured in 14 points and dropped seven assists as well to keep the ISU offense going.

Brynn Williamson was another bright spot, as she celebrated her 22nd birthday by scoring her 1000 career point as a Cyclone. She finished with 11 points and nine rebounds in the game.

Up Next

The Cyclones will be back in action early next week as they take on the Sooners (16-8, 10-3 Big 12). Tip is slated for 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at Hilton Coliseum. The Sooners beat the Cyclones 75-66 earlier this year in Norman, Okla.
