Hoiberg passes Eustachy in career wins

Another game down, another accomplishment for ISU basketball coach Fred Hoiberg.

Hoiberg passed Larry Eustachy to move to fourth all-time on the university’s coaching wins list, notching his 102nd win at Iowa State against West Virginia. There are five coaches in Iowa State history to reach 100 wins:

Johnny Orr — 218-200

Louis Menze — 166-153

Glen Anderson — 142-161

Fred Hoiberg — 102-49

Larry Eustachy — 101-59

Hoiberg’s 102-49 record as head coach is the best winning percentage among the five ISU coaches with 100 wins and Hoiberg eclipsed the century mark faster than any coach.

Hoiberg revived an ailing ISU basketball program and has improved the team’s record nearly every season. After a 16-16 first year, he took the Cyclones to three straight NCAA tournaments, coming to a head after winning the Big 12 tournament title and reaching the Sweet 16 in 2013-14.
