Iowa State’s top-15 matchup with Kansas was surrounded by hype, capturing the attention of a national audience on ESPN’s premiere basketball showcase. The Cyclones lived up to that hype, launching them to No. 9 in the AP Poll this week. Iowa State also moved to No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

After falling to Baylor on the road in a tight game, the Cyclones were able to out-hustle Kansas to steal the top ranking in the Big 12 and break the top 10 for the second time this season.

But the big story in the state of Iowa was the Iowa Hawkeyes sneaking into the AP Poll, putting three Iowa schools in the top 25 for the first time in history. The Northern Iowa Panthers moved to No. 20, while the Iowa Hawkeyes round out the poll at No. 25.

The Big 12 has six teams in this week’s rankings with Oklahoma State dropping out. The Cowboys are the first team out, receiving enough votes for a de facto No. 26 ranking.

Other ISU opponents in the AP Poll include No. 13 Maryland, No. 18 West Virginia and No. 21 Baylor.
