Gov. Terry Branstad appointed Sherry Bates as a member of the Iowa Board of Regents.

Bates, 62, of Scranton, Iowa, graduated from Iowa State with a degree in child development and has spent most of her career as a social worker at Greene County Medical Center.

“I am pleased today to appoint Sherry Bates as a member of the Iowa Board of Regents,” Branstad said in a press release. “Sherry’s work in her community and as a social worker demonstrates her commitment to public service. Her belief in affordable, world-class higher education will serve her well as a Regent.”

Bates will fill the seat formerly occupied by Regent Nicole Carroll.
