A woman was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center after two cars collided in the intersection of S 4th St. and University Blvd. around 5:50 p.m. Friday.

A silver BMW was northbound on University, turning left onto S. 4th while a Honda was southbound, turning onto S. 4th. The two collided with both front-ends of the vehicles sustaining serious damage.

Lt. Jeff Brinkley of the Ames Police Department said one of the vehicles must have blown a stoplight. Once Ames Police determines who blew the light, the driver will receive a citation.

The driver of the Honda was a handicapped woman in her 30s or 40s, Brinkley said. She was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for minor injuries once a wheelchair was brought to transport her.

The driver and passenger of the BMW, both in their 20s, sustained no injuries.
