Chad Urmston is an American musician and human rights activist who is most known for fronting the popular alternative acts Dispatch and State Radio.

The Boston native released his first album “Simmerkane II” in 2011 under the name Chadwick Stokes. While both Dispatch and State Radio are still functioning as musical acts, Urmston still finds time for his solo work.

In 2013, he traveled around America hosting a chain of “Living Room Shows.”

“It takes out the middle man. You get to go to people’s homes and sleep on couches. It feels real,” Urmston said.

“We tell people that we’re going to be in this city on this date and ask people, ‘Who could host us?’ And they write back in,” Urmston said. “People buy tickets months in advance, and you only get the address to the show once you’ve bought a ticket.”

While Urmston enjoys solo work, saying it’s more intimate, he doesn’t enjoy taking all the credit.

“There’s me and five other guys. When we toured [the first solo record] we were ‘Chadwick Stokes and The Pintos,’ so I think that’s what we’ll be again,” Urmston said.

Chadwick Stokes will be playing a bunch new songs, according to Urmston.

Stokes’ new album, “The Horse Comanche,” is out in early 2015.

Opening up for Stokes is Ark Life. These Denver natives have shared a stage with many names in the alternative scene such as Of Montreal and The Head and the Heart.

Stokes’ charitable foundation, Calling All Crows, will collect $1 from every ticket. Calling All Crows strives to bring a variety of social issues to the attention of music fans and to empower its constituency to leverage their voices and power for positive change.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the Maintenance Shop in the Memorial Union and the bands play at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15 with a student ID and $19 for the public, with a $2 increase the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the M-Shop box office or online at www.midwestix.com.
