Movies we want remade

Sam Vander Forest

There are countless movies that people can find that they would like to be remade, and it’s almost impossible to find a movie that pleases everyone, which is why we’re looking back at some films that could use a second time around. Now these aren’t necessarily the classic films that need to be remade for a new generation (that will come later), these are movies that maybe missed out on good storyline opportunities, were unexpectedly cut short, or maybe just missed their mark altogether (Cough, Green Lantern). Here is a quick list of movies we thought could use a touch up with the new technology we have readily available these days.

1. Flash Gordon- This one is a little less known, unless you’ve seen “Ted” or actually were crazy enough to watch this growing up, but fans seem to react well to it. The story follows Flash Gordon, who is a football star on the New York Jets, and who is ultimately left to defend the Earth against Emperor Ming the Merciless. Cheesy, right? It performed mildly but still has a big fan base, and could really use a revamp from the terrible 80’s technology it was dealt. It also would seem fitting to do with all of the new superhero movies set to launch in the next 10 years.

2. Batman and Robin- As the huge star that George Clooney is nowadays, you’d expect his role as one of the most beloved Superheroes would be amazing. Think again. The 1997 adaptation had some big names in the cast, but overall it seemed toe be useless. The movie is hailed as one of the worst superhero movies of all time, despite having a top-billed cast and some amazing comic book characters at its disposal. Remaking this film would both upset and please comic book fans, but in the end it would do society a great justice.

3. Green Lantern- I apologize for all of the superhero movie choices, but I guess superhero movies just take a lot longer to perfect. The 2011 “Green Lantern” film with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively essentially missed the mark altogether as both a superhero movie, and a movie in general. Poor CGI, mediocre directing and decent acting at best caused this movie to be pushed off the big screen in no time. Luckily, this is one film we will be getting a remake of; we just have to wait six years. With DC’s latest announcement of superhero juggernaut films, Green Lantern fortunately made the list.

4. Reign of Fire- This is another one that isn’t too well known, but it is one of the films on this list that was actually tremendous. The only reason it’s on this list is because the writers could have either delved into the origin story a bit more, or made a follow-up film to take care of that. If you’ve seen the film, you just feel like after the initial encounter with dragons they immediately skip ahead twenty some years. I personally would like to see more to that. If you haven’t seen it, it puts Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey together to survive in a post-apocalyptic London taken over by dragons.

Game of Death- The last film on the list is Bruce Lee’s last film attempt, which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in. He unfortunately passed away during the filming, and it was released after the crew finished filming and dubbing the sound over Bruce Lee’s voice. I know no one can replace Bruce Lee, but a film this good deserves a good remake with Jet Li, who has already remade Bruce Lee’s “Fist of Fury.”
