Senior linebacker, Jared Brackens pumps up the crowd before kickoff after the Cyclones scored their first field goal in the first quarter tying the game 3-3. Iowa State’s homecoming game against Toledo on Oct. 11 ended in a victory for the Cyclones, 37-30.

1. No. 7 Texas Christian (6-1, 3-1 Big 12)

Every week it seems like a new Big 12 quarterback stands out and puts up an eye popping stat line. Last week, TCU’s Trevor Boykin went 22-39 for 433 yards and seven touchdowns in a ridiculous 82-27 rout of Texas Tech.

2. No. 9 Kansas State (6-1, 4-0 Big 12)

Kansas State did not falter against Texas last week, but it just doesn’t compare to what TCU has been doing the last couple of weeks. If the Wildcats survive Oklahoma State this week, all the lights will be shining on their showdown against TCU on Nov. 8.

3. No. 20 West Virginia (6-2, 4-1 Big 12)

After losing their Big 12 opener to Oklahoma in week four, quarterback Clint Trickett and the Mountaineers haven’t missed a beat, highlighted by a win against then No. 4 Baylor. This weekend will be another big test as they welcome TCU into their stadium.

4. No. 13 Baylor (6-1, 3-1 Big 12)

After a much needed bye week to regroup after an upset loss to West Virginia, Baylor plays Big 12 cellar dweller Kansas, who is only averaging 16.6 points per game.

5. No. 18 Oklahoma (5-2, 2-2 Big 12)

The Sooners are at a crossroads. After being in the forefront of the playoff discussion, they dropped two games and are now ranked outside the top 15 at No. 18. They either call it good for this season or they prove the doubters wrong. It’s doubtful that Bob Stoops’ team does the former.

6. Oklahoma State (5-3, 3-2 Big 12)

Oklahoma State has potential, and everyone saw that in the first half of the season, but since a deflating loss to TCU on Oct.18, the Cowboys have looked flat. A date with No. 9 Kansas State may or may not be exactly what they need to get their momentum back.

7. Texas (3-5, 2-3 Big 12)

The Longhorns can’t seem to figure it out. The defense is one of the top units in the conference and Tyrone Swoopes is a quality quarterback. Coach Charlie Strong has four more games to put it all together before the Longhorn faithful really start to get agitated.

8. Iowa State (2-5, 0-4 Big 12)

Is Iowa State winless in the Big 12? Yes. Have they surrendered anywhere near 82 points to any opponent this season? No.

9. Texas Tech (3-5, 1-4 Big 12)

That last one had to hurt. The Red Raiders have to put last weeks beat down behind them and move on if they want any shot at reviving their season, which will be tough with both Oklahoma and Baylor looming near the end of their schedule.

10. Kansas (2-5, 0-4)

There isn’t much optimism for this Jayhawk football team. The offense has been absolutely dismal this season and their defense will not catch a break as they take on the top four teams in the conference through their last five games.
