Assistant women’s basketball coaches Jodi Steyer and Latoja Schaben share a unique bond with head coach Bill Fennelly.

Steyer

  • Began coaching with Fennelly at Toledo right out of college
  • Spent six years alongside Fennelly at Toledo and is now entering her 13th year in Ames
  • Worked with post players at Toledo and coached two Mid-American Conference Players of the Year
  • Now coaches the ISU backcourt
  • Fennelly called Steyer the “best assistant coach in the country”

Schaben

  • Played for Fennelly and Steyer at Toledo and earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Year honors
  • Played three seasons professionally in Europe, averaging double-digit points and rebounds each year
  • Works with ISU post players
  • Fennelly said Schaben is “like family,” noting that he even walked her down the aisle at her wedding
