3 RB waiver wire pick ups that could save your fantasy season

Kyle Kubiak

Fantasy football owners are at the point in their season when they can either feel the playoffs approaching or their season coming to an end. This year’s been filled with fantasy studs and duds, but the mass amount of injuries has taken the focus. The waiver wire in week six has the ability to completely change your season around and here are the players I suggest you look into adding.

Standard ESPN league finds:

There are three names that stand above the others this week in the waiver wire. All three are running backs that will be getting their first chance at starting snaps due to injury in front of them. This has seemed to be the story of the year and I am expecting these three backs to be ones you will want to have.

Andre Williams, RB, New York Giants (owned in 36 percent of ESPN leagues): I’m giving Williams an edge over the other two backs you will want to grab due to the high production his back had before him. Rashad Jennings was producing high number points for fantasy owners, and if Jennings owners were able to grab Williams they might just be replacing names. Williams has all the tools available to score you a lot of points as his backup will be Peyton Hillis and he has not been the same since his “Madden season.” Jennings was taking the heavy load before he went down and I believe Williams will see the same load.

Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver Broncos (owned in .9 percent of ESPN leagues): Hillman has found himself in the starting role after the starter, Montee Ball, will be held out for a couple of weeks while he tries to overcome a groin injury. I am giving Hillman a lower rating to Williams as the Denver Broncos still have a QB with the name Peyton Manning on their team and he is going to be putting the ball in the air more often than handing it off.

Branden Oliver, RB, San Diego Chargers (owned in .7 percent of ESPN leagues): Oliver was unbelievable in week 5 with 182 total yards of offense against a solid Jets run defense. Initial starter for the week 5 game was Donald Brown who suffered a concussion early in the first quarter and has the ability to possibly play Sunday, but I do not believe this is something you should worry about. Still grab Oliver. Grabbing Oliver now will be a safe bet as he has shown more promise even in one game than Brown has shown all season behind the Chargers O-line.
