Why we love Neil Patrick Harris

With the recent announcement that the “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting the Oscars in February, we thought we’d look back at his past hosting gigs and remember why we love him so much.

1. His Tony Awards show opening number in 2013 was not only his best, but probably up there with one of the all-time best opening numbers in Tony Awards history. Here’s a link if you didn’t get to see it:

2. He’s hosted the Tony Awards four times and the Emmy Awards twice, and is now hosting the Oscars. Who does that?

3. He plays a better straight man than even some actual straight men in his role as Barney Stinson on “How I Met Your Mother.”

4. He’s unbelievably charitable, giving to all of these charities and helping organize events for them:

AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Children International, Clothes Off Our Back, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Feeding America, First Book, Food On Foot, Global Green, Hope North, Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation, Noreen Fraser Foundation, Project Angel Food, Real Medicine Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer, Susan G. Komen For The Cure, The Trevor Project, and even more.

5. The last reason to truly like Neil Patrick Harris is that he started his career as a child actor and the star of the show “Doogie Howser,” but still managed to grow up true to himself and his family and didn’t get caught up in the unfortunate sides of life that we often see young people in Hollywood exposed to.

Although it’s a ways away, people are already excited for them from this news. The 87th Academy Awards are set for Feb. 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and will be shown on ABC.
