Here is a simplified version of how the monks make a sand mandala:

• Get a round mandala template.

• Divide template into four quadrants.

• Divide template into four more quadrants. It should look something like a pizza with eight equal slices now.

• Draw a shape, such as a circle, in the middle of the mandala.

• Draw a shape, such as an octagon, around the first shape in the middle.

• Repeat in a ring all around your center motif.

• Add detail around mandala in four symmetrical quadrants.

• Add color to your mandala, make sure to keep it symmetrical.

• Voila! Your mandala is complete. Do with it as you wish.
