Hockey drops season opener

Cyclone Hockey couldn’t get on a roll Sept. 5 as it dropped its season opener against the Huntsville Havoc 4-1.

The Cyclones put the pressure on early but had trouble finding the back of the net.

Iowa State spent much of the first period on Huntsville ice but failed to score, leaving the game tied at zero.

The Havoc were the first to get on the board, scoring at just less than eight minutes into the second period. The Cyclones answered back with a goal later that period from Scott Antonsen.

Huntsville dominated the third period, keeping the puck in Iowa State’s zone. The offensive pressure helped them score three goals all within nine minutes.

The Cyclones were effective against the penalty, killing all four of the power plays during the game.

Cyclone Hockey will finish its opening series against the Huntsville Havoc Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
