Week two’s Big 12 power rankings
September 2, 2014
1. Oklahoma | (1-0, 0-0) | [–]
After beating Louisiana Tech handily, the Sooners proved why they’re the best in the Big 12.
2. Baylor | (1-0, 0-0) | [–]
The Bears proved their worth in week one, beating Southern Methodist University 45-0. No need for them to move in the rankings, despite a minor injury to Bryce Petty.
3. Kansas State | (1-0, 0-0) | [–]
The Wildcats won beat SF Austin last week by nearly 40 points. They will be a strong Big 12 title contender.
4. Texas | (1-0, 0-0) | [+1]
First year coach Charlie Strong had a good showing against North Texas in week one. We’ll see how the Longhorns do in Big 12 play.
5. Oklahoma State | (0-1, 0-0) | [-1]
Even though they lost to top-ranked Florida State 37-31, the Cowboys surprised a lot of people in week one. They should recover well from the loss.
6. TCU | (1-0, 0-0) | [+1]
TCU got hot on offense last week, giving them a strong win over Sanford, leaving people wondering if this will be a regular occurrence for the Horned Frogs.
7. Texas Tech | (1-0, 0-0) | [-1]
Texas Tech barely hung on to beat Central Arkansas, an FCS team, last week. It looks like they have some work to do.
8. West Virginia | (0-1, 0-0) | [+1]
The Mountaineers fell to Alabama last week, but only lost by 10. This WVU team seems much improved from last year.
9. Iowa State | (0-1, 0-0) | [-1]
After their hot start, the Cyclones seemed to fall apart in last week’s loss to North Dakota State. Now that Big 12 play is underway, ISU will need to make a statement this week.
10. Kansas | (0-0, 0-0) | [–]
Starting the season with a bye week, the Jayhawks stay at the bottom of this week’s power ranking.
