Monks make a sand Mandala
September 21, 2014
Tibetan monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery are constructing a mandala sand painting Sept. 22 through Sept. 25 in the Memorial Union.
The mandala is a form of Tantric Buddhism art believed to help gain wisdom and compassion. The geographic build of the mandala is believed to house deities with the main deity housed in the center.
The tool is meant to guide people along the path to enlightenment, according to a website about the mandala.
The sand mandala is believed to be a center of healing and purification and is unique to Tibetan Buddhism.
