Fred Hoiberg decided to keep his search for a new assistant coach close to home.

Charlie Henry, who acted as Iowa State’s director of player development last season, has been promoted to assistant men’s basketball coach by Hoiberg in order to fill the void left by former assistant Doc Sadler, who left in April to lead the Southern Miss basketball team.

“Having worked with Charlie the past two years, I’ve seen how valuable he is to our program,” Hoiberg said in a press release. “Charlie is a hard worker with great attention to detail. He is very dedicated to helping our program and our players improve.”

A graduate of Madonna University in Livonia, Mich., Henry has worked as a graduate manager at the University of Utah and later as a video coordinator for the Indiana Pacers in 2011-12.
