Even though he’s graduated, ISU basketball player Melvin Ejim keeps garnering awards.

The former Cyclone All-American was named Iowa State’s Male Athlete of the Year after a career season in which he set several marks and took home numerous awards, including Big 12 Player of the Year.

Ejim finished the season third in the Big 12 in scoring — 17.8 points on average — and tied for second in rebounding with an average of 8.4 en route to leading the Cyclones to a Sweet 16 appearance as well as a Big 12 Championship victory.

Ejim’s best performance came against TCU, in which he racked up 48 points and set a new Big 12 single game record. In addition to his on-court success, Ejim was also named the Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Ejim is the first basketball player to be named Male Athlete of the Year since 2004, when Zach Roberson and Jake Sullivan shared the distinction.
