ISU assistant wrestling coach Troy Nickerson has decided to head west and lead the wrestling program at Northern Colorado, ending a two year stint as one of Kevin Jackson’s assistants.

Nickerson will become the seventh coach in Northern Colorado’s 35-year history and he will take over a team that notched a 5-13 record in the 2013-14 season.

“I’m extremely excited to join the Northern Colorado wrestling community,” Nickerson said in a release from Northern Colorado. “I want to thank [athletics director] Darren Dunn and the search committee for believing in me and providing me with this opportunity. I will work tirelessly to make UNC wrestling a force to be reckoned with in the future.”

During his time with ISU wrestling, Nickerson worked with the 125-149 pound weight classes. Last season, Nickerson helped coach 125-pounder Earl Hall on his way to becoming an All-American in Hall’s first season as a Cyclone.

While a student-athlete at Cornell, Nickerson won two national titles and was named an All-American four times.
