ISU distinguished professor and Nobel Laureate runs for Israeli presidency

Dan Shechtman, distinguished professor of materials science and engineering, is officially on the ballot for the presidential race of Israel, according to The Times of Israel.
Shechtman won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2011 for his discovery of quasicrystals, which he published in 1984. Shechtman splits his time working in the Ames Laboratory and at Technion — Israel Institute of Technology.
He is one of six candidates running for the Israeli presidency.
Update: Reuven Rivlin has been selected as the next president of Israel.
