Biking is healthy, functional, but can it be fun? The High Trestle Trail is a right of passage here In Iowa. This unique path boasts some of the most breathtaking views in the state. The trail is currently a modest 25 mile that sports a very famous attraction.
The High Trestle Bridge is inarguably the best attraction of this trail. The 40 meter high structure spreads out across nearly half a mile. It provides incredibly unique and scenic views of the Des Moines River Valley, located near old mining shafts. A decorative overhead structures spans the bridge in its entirety, created specifically to represent the view through a mine shaft. The design includes intricate lighting that makes night visits most serene.
This is a great place to enjoy the surrounding Iowa scenery. Whether you have the desire for a great workout or simply a great view, this trail is perfect. There are six overlooks on the bridge with interpretive panels that highlight the culture and history of central Iowa. It is a place made for all ages and lifestyles, as long as fresh air is a goal.
