In its first game since sophomore Georges Niang suffered a fracture in his right foot, the Iowa State men’s basketball team edged North Carolina 85-83 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Senior DeAndre Kane led the Cyclones with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Sophomore Marcus Paige was the leading scorer for the Tarheels with 19 points.

With the game tied at 83-83 and 15.7 seconds left, Kane drove through the lane and put a layup off the glass with 1.6 seconds left. As the Tarheels put the ball in bounds, they drove it to half court where they called a timeout, but time had expired effectively ending the game.

Iowa State will take on UCONN in the Sweet 16 on March 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y.
