Your guide to spring break
February 25, 2014
Everyone packs the same three pair of shorts and five shirts for spring break. However, even spring break has its own set of dress rules. No matter if you are going to the east or west coast or even the travelers planning on leaving the country there are different styles associated with each of these. Most of all have fun with your outfit choices.
When traveling to the east coast you can be more fashion forward. This part of the country generally picks up trends the fastest so go crazy. Since it wont be as warm as the tropics pack the essentials, including patterned leggings, studded sweaters, and your favorite pair of dark wash jeans. Don’t forget to include your heeled booties! If you plan on wearing dresses don’t forget the tights. If you are planning on pulling out a pair of heels be cautious because walking in snow is more difficult than it looks. I recommend skipping the heels and going with a pair of nude flats. They go with everything so you can pack less and buy more.
If you plan on heading to the west coast there’s no need to pack a sweater. Pull out the capris and the t’s! The water might be a bit chilly to go in but the weather will be beautiful. The fashion style out there are more laid back and loosely fitted. Try for the relaxed jeans, oversized off shoulder crop top, and a cute pair of sneakers. It might be warm enough to walk the beach though so bring flip-flops as well. Dresses can be worn without tights (try the color of the year, orchid). Bring a suit to go pool hopping in (in a multiple colors, neon is hot).
To those of you staying in the Midwest or heading north I salute you. Hopefully the weather will stay in the forties so at least it is bearable. Just because its not Hawaii doesn’t mean you aren’t able to dress fashionable! For this area winter coats and warm fleece-lined leggings are a must have. Military influenced jackets with boxy pockets in an army green are very popular so pick that up to stay stylish. I am in love with sweaters that include leather or studs. Leggings are warm and comfortable. You should have at least two pairs of black ones in your closet but try to expand into other colors and patterns. I’ve seen some herringbone leggings that are too die for. Try to be bold and just hold on for the summer months they are so close.
For the wary travelers planning on leaving the country and heading somewhere warm I am jealous. Make sure to pack plenty of floral/fun summer printed shorts; sundresses will be your bread and butter. Those of you planning on heading to a beach you will probably be living in the water so find fun ways to change what you wear with your suit. Norts are my personal fav (Nike shorts) but if you are going for something more fashion forward try for something unique and local. If you happen to be going somewhere don’t be afraid to explore the native dress and bring back things all your friends will be jealous of.
The moral of the story is trying things you might not normally try. No matter what part of the country you happen to be going to forget about your stressful life and relax. No matter if you live for the next hot fashions or could care less that’s fine. Hey its spring break it’s supposed to be fun so why not explore exciting clothing!
