Tips for living on a tight budget

• Shop at grocery stores that offer college-friendly prices such as Aldi and Walmart

• Make use of friends’ or parents’ Sam’s Club membership and buy things in bulk to split with roommates. This also helps save around ten cents for gas.

• Minimize eating out. It is much cheaper to make your own version of the meal. If you do eat out, download the Campus Special app to receive deals at various places in Ames, or go to places that always offer student discounts such as these:

• Subway: 10% off

• Papa John’s: 10% Off

• Domino’s: Discounts vary

• Burger King: 10% off

• Dairy Queen: 10% off

• Use your student discount in stores and on websites as well. Many stores such as Urban Outfitter’s, Charlotte Russe, Apple, Amazon and Hobby Lobby offer percentages off your total if you are a student.

• Get the most out of your money when paying for garbage, television and internet packages. Go to Allconnect.com, enter in your address and it will output the most affordable utilities and services near you.

• Take the bus or carpool. You will save more money on gas than you think!

• Give plasma. It is an easy way to make quick money while helping others. Make an appointment on biolife.com.
