After a school-record 14-0 start, the No. 8 ISU men’s basketball has lost three games in a row, the latest coming against Texas 86-76 in Austin on Saturday. 

The Cyclones trailed 75-61 with 5:09 left and cut the lead to four at 80-76 with 53 seconds left, but Texas made free throws down the stretch and sealed the game. 

Iowa State ended its cold shooting streak of only 10 triples in the last two games combined, hitting 11 3-pointers on the afternoon. Georges Niang, who was 0-for-9 against Kansas on Monday and had missed his last 15 attempts went 4-for-7 from behind the arc and finished 7-of-13 from the field with 18 points.

Deandre Kane finished with 15 points, but struggled from the field, making 3-of-12  but made 8-of-10 free throws and added six rebounds and four assists. Melvin Ejim fouled out of the game, but finished with 17 points, going 8-for-11 and added 10 rebounds. 

Iowa State turned the ball over 17 times, giving Texas second chances, which they capitalized on. Texas was led by Jonathan Holmes, who scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Texas’ Cameron Ridley pounded Iowa State in the paint, scoring 16 on 7-of-10 shooting and added 11 rebounds. 

Iowa State has the week off until taking on Kansas State on Jan 25 at Hilton Coliseum at 12:45 p.m.
