ISU Police investigate incident reportedly involving a weapon at Lied

ISU Police are investigating the report of a potential gun displayed outside of Lied Recreation Athletic Center.

Iowa State University released the following information regarding an incident that occurred at 6:52 p.m., Jan. 27 at Lied Recreation Center:

“ISU Police are investigating an incident near Lied Recreation Center in which a man reportedly displayed a gun. Suspect left in a black Mazda, northbound on Beach Road. The vehicle has passenger side damage. Suspect is described as a white male, 6’2 with brown spiked hair.”

Iowa State reported the license plate of the suspected vehicle as Iowa BPJ-907 with a damaged passenger tail light and the words “one stripe” on the car. The vehicle is a 2001 Mazda 626.

ISU Alert issued an alert at around 8:15 p.m. saying the suspect displayed a handgun from a road rage incident at the parking lot outside Lied.

The victim reported the suspect followed them from the area of Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue. According to the release, the suspect reportedly approached the victim and began yelling at them, then pulled a handgun from his belt but did not point the gun at the victim.

The suspect left the area, driving North on Beach Road.

The alert said not to approach the suspect and to call 911 if the vehicle is spotted.
