State medical examiner releases autopsy details for driver in police chase

The state of Iowa’s Chief Medical Examiner Julia Goodin said the cause of death for Tyler Comstock, who led police on a chase through Central Campus on Monday, Nov. 4, was two gunshot wounds, one to the head and one to the chest.

Goodin said the manner of death for the 19-year-old from Boone, Iowa, has been classified as homicide because of the way Comstock died.

“Homicide for us generally means that somebody died due to the actions of another person,” Goodin said.

The chase with police began on Grand Avenue just after 10 a.m. Monday and ended with six rounds being fired by Ames Police officer Adam McPherson on Iowa State’s Central Campus. Comstock, who was identified by Ames Police on Tuesday morning, was pronounced dead after being taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center.
