The Lowdown

Iowa State used a strong second half Tuesday night at Hilton Coliseum to defeat Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 80-50.

Five ISU players reached double-digits, led by senior guard DeAndre Kane, who finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds. The Cyclones went 11-of-25 beyond the arc one game after hitting 15 3-pointers in the season opener Sunday. 

Iowa State advances to 2-0 on the season and returns to the court Sunday when it takes on No. 7 Michigan on ESPN. Tipoff in that game is set for 4 p.m.

Turning Point

With 16:31 remaining in the game, Kane hit a 3-pointer off an assist from forward Georges Niang. The shot sparked an 18-2 run during the next five minutes as the Cyclones pulled away.

Iowa State ended up outscoring Texas A&M Corpus Christi 43-26 in the second half to secure its second victory of the season. 

X Factor

Dustin Hogue — ISU forward Dustin Hogue scored 13 points and brought in eight rebounds for the Cyclones in the win. Hogue went 5-of-6 from the field and made all three 3-pointers he shot.
