There are still unanswered questions involving a police chase and gunshots that ended on Central Campus on Monday morning, Nov.4.

Ames police initiated a normal traffic stop on Beach Avenue around 10 a.m. Geoff Huff, investigations commander of the Ames Police, said the driver of the truck failed to stop and was pursued onto Central Campus.

Huff said he was unsure why police were stopping the truck.

The driver tried to “strike police” with his truck, Huff said. At some point, shots were fired, but at this time, it is not confirmed how many shots were fired by Ames Police.

The chase ended after the truck crashed into a tree just south of McKay Hall. One individual was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Huff said name and condition of the individual taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center will not be released today, but more information on the pursuit and shooting will be coming later today.

Huff did not specify why he could not release the individual’s name and condition.

The driver drove a truck which had the name Spring-Green in green letters along the side. A spokesperson from Spring-Green Lawn Care confirmed their truck was stolen this morning.

“Our truck was stolen earlier this morning, and it’s a tragic outcome of events,” said a spokesperson from Spring-Green Lawn Care.

An ISU Alert was sent out during the incident, stating:

“ISU Alert: Shots fired on central campus. Result of chase by Ames PD. No threat now. Situation resolved. Suspect in custody. Avoid affected area.”
