Album Review: Miley Cyrus’ ‘Bangerz’
October 16, 2013
When you think about Miley Cyrus, you might just think about her licking a sledgehammer or dancing half naked at the VMAs, but her new album proves that she really is a talented individual.
Her newest album “Bangerz” was released on Oct. 8. It is her first album to be released in three years. She is changing it up and making sure the world knows that Hannah Montana is a thing of the past.
The 20-year-old is under a lot of scrutiny right now, but she really does not care what people think. She states this in many of her new songs with lyrics like, “Remember only God could judge ya, forget the haters cause somebody loves ya” and “every single night and every single day, I’mma do my thing”.
The two singles released from this album were “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.” Both were incredibly successful. “We Can’t Stop” reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and “Wrecking Ball” set the record on Vevo for most views in 24 hours. It was also the fastest song to reach 100 million views on the service.
The album as a whole has a variety of songs and beats, but it is basically about two things: breaking up and partying.
It starts off strong with “Adore You,” a pretty song about love. Then it gets into her more energized songs. “4×4” is an interesting song that incorporates a hip-hop beat with a country twang.
Many big name artists assisted Miley in making her new songs such as Britney Spears, Big Sean, French Montana, Future, Ludacris and Nelly. “My Darlin’” is a collaboration by Miley and Future. It gives a twist to the old classic “Stand By Me” by adding a Jamaican vibe.
Mike Will Made It created a lot of the beats for this album. It’s something you won’t forget because they remind you in several of the songs by literally saying it.
Most of the songs on the album would fall under the hip-hop category and Miley attempts to rap in a few. Unfortunately her attempt is not the greatest. She is not a very convincing rapper. She can take a decent song with a good beat and make it obnoxious just by rapping a few lines.
“Bangerz” is a fun album. Although it has its flaws, overall it is pretty impressive. Even if you are not a fan, you can’t deny that a lot of her songs are incredibly catchy.
