Emily Goldstein’s goal puts Baylor away in overtime for ISU soccer
October 18, 2013
Iowa State earned its second-straight Big 12 win of the season after a 1-0 overtime victory coming from an Emily Goldstein golden goal against Baylor on Friday night, Oct. 18.
It was a scoreless first half for both teams, as Baylor outshot Iowa State 11-5 and of those 11 shots by the Bears, five were on goal. ISU goalkeeper Maddie Jobe stopped four shots with Hayley Womack registering a save for the team by blocking an early shot to the back post.
The second half was more of the same as Baylor continued to dominate the shot count and by the end of the game, the Bears amassed 21 shots to Iowa State’s seven.
Baylor’s best chances came from corner kicks. During regulation, the Bears put in 11 corner kicks, all of which were cleared by the Cyclones.
Goldstein — who recorded a hat trick in a 4-1 victory against Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 13 — continued to play the hero for the Cyclones by breaking the deadlock in the first overtime and earning her team the win.
“It was honestly like the first goal I scored against Oklahoma,” Goldstein said. “Koree [Willer] won it and I made the exact same run and the defenders over-committed, so I cut it back to my left foot and the goalie thought I was going back-post so I went front post, hit it as hard as I could and it went in.”
Goldstein’s goal gave her six on the year, the most of any player on the ISU roster this season.
