Cyclone Hockey stays undefeated with win against North Iowa

Cyclone Hockey continued to show off its offensive firepower early in the year with a 7-4 win Saturday night against the North Iowa Bulls.
The win brings the Cyclones to 6-0-0 as they start their conference season next week with a road trip to the Illinois.
It took until more than halfway through the first period for the Cyclones to get on the board. Iowa State finally broke through when sophomore Mike Leskun was able to score giving Iowa State a 1-0 lead.
Several minutes later, Iowa State struck again, this goal coming from freshman forward Preston Blanek.
Iowa State got two more goals in the final minute and a half in the period. The goals came from freshman Chase Rey and junior Trevor Lloyd, giving Iowa State a 4-0 lead.
North Iowa was able to battle back and strike first in the second period. Logan Murphy picked up a goal for the Bulls bringing the score to 4-1.
Iowa State scored two goals in the last three minutes of the period off the sticks of J.P. Kacsak and Lloyd, who picked up his second of the night.
Iowa State got the scoring going in the third period when an Eero Helanto shot ricocheted off the skate of Jake Bruhn into the net.
North Iowa picked up goals in the third period from Timothy Santopoalo, Richie Marenis and Taylor Brown to set the final score at 7-4.
Matt Cooper picked up the win in the net for the Cyclones his fourth of the year and second in as many nights.
Iowa State’s next action is Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, at Illinois.
