The Iowa State Center has added a few events to the Performing Arts Series since they announced the line up for the 2013-14 year in May. 

Four new shows have been added recently to the lineup, which features comedian Bill Cosby. The new shows are a cappella group Straight No Chaser, comedian Gabriel Iglesias, the flute duo In Sterio and the musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.”

Straight No Chaser is performing at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17.  The touring a cappella group will sing songs from their newly released album “Under The Influence” along with other favorite songs from popular artists like Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder and Elton John, just to name a few.

Gabriel Iglesias will be at Stephens Auditorium at 8 p.m. Oct. 25. What his tour is about is not mentioned on the Stephens Web page nor on his website.

In Sterio will play at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Stephens. The flute duo performs a cross-cultural music show. Beyond the performance, Shivhan Dohse and Erica Peel will be in Ames almost one week prior to their performance as Artists-In-Residence.

Oct. 29 through Nov. 1 In Sterio will be working with the Ames schools and other community organizations. They will also hold a concert in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall in Music Hall.

“It’s a real exciting outreach to the community to have artists that can stay longer than one evening and kind of explain a little bit about the music they’re playing,” said Patti Cotter, development and sponsorship manager for Stephens.

The musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2. Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett spent 13 years putting together the southern gothic musical that focuses on two sets of brothers, both living and dead.

The rest of the Performing Arts Series starts at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 with comedian Cosby.

Australian Chamber Orchestra: 7:30 p.m. March 24

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra: 7:30 p.m. March 26

“Disney’s Beauty & the Beast“: 6:30 p.m. April 10 

“Bring It On: The Musical“: 7:30 p.m. April 25

“Mamma Mia!“: 7:30 p.m. May 4

Tickets are sold online at Ticket Master or at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office at the north entrance of Stephens Auditorium Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Package deals are on sale for students and adults. Student punch cards are on sale now for $60 for three shows. Subscription packages and single ticket sales begin Sept. 9.

“We are committed to keeping these prices as low as possible. We do have so much description and material [about the shows],” Cotter said. “We love for people to learn more about a show particularly if they haven’t heard of it. They can go online and watch a video and listen to the show or read about the cast.”
