Investigation of Campustown dumpster fires continues
August 28, 2013
Ames Police and Fire departments still are investigating three Campustown trash bin fires that occurred nearly two weeks ago.
The fires took place between 1:50 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Fire Department asks anyone who might have any information regarding the Campustown fires to call one of the three fire stations. The ongoing investigation has not determined the cause of the fires, or confirmed whether or not it was arson.
“In one of the fires, they had some reports of fireworks in the area, so whether that contributed or not, I’m not for sure,” said Paul Sandoval, deputy fire chief.
In the event of another fire, Sandoval said bystanders should alert the occupants of the nearest building if it is close to the fire.
“However, it’s best just to call 911 and let us handle it,” Sandoval said.
