NTK Cy-Hawk series heats up
July 10, 2013
It’s a tradition unlike any other.
The rivalry between Iowa State and Iowa is deeply rooted in the foundations of the state and its citizens. Every year, it brings fans from both sides together, but then the competition begins.
The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series pits the two universities against each other in all sports with the victor gaining two points per victory. The school with the most points at the end of the school year wins the series.
The headliner of the annual competition occurs during the fall season when the school’s football teams compete for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The Cyclones are the current trophy holders after their 9-6 win over the Hawkeyes on Sept. 8, 2013, in Iowa City.
During the 2012-2013 series, Iowa won all but four events, taking the series by a score of 17-9. The 2011-2012 year saw Iowa State run away with the series win by a score of 17-11.
