Former ISU basketball player caught stealing

Former ISU basketball player Tyrus McGee was charged with fourth degree theft Tuesday after he was caught on camera taking $220 out of a wallet at the Hawthorn Market and Cafe according to the report filed with the ISU Police Department. 

Police department captain Aaron DeLashmutt said after hearing the complaint at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night, police checked the video surveillance at the food court and saw McGee take the money. McGee then admitted to police he took the money and spent it on groceries and payed some of his friends. 

McGee was also charged last September with providing alcohol to a minor, which is a misdemeanor. 

According to Iowa code, fourth-degree theft involves items between $200 and $500 and is classified as a serious misdemeanor.
