Saina back on Bowerman Watch List during May

Redshirt senior Betsy Saina takes first place in 5,000-meter at the Iowa State Classic at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center on Feb. 9. Saina shattered the previous record of 15:29 with a time of 15:21.66, finishing almost four seconds in front of the second-place runner.

Senior distance runner Betsy Saina found her way back onto the Bowerman Watch List for the month of May, according to a news release the afternoon of May 2, 2013.

Saina is coming off a dominant finish at the Payton Jordan Invitational, finishing first place in the 10,000-meter run. Her time of 31:37.22 stood as the No. 3 fastest time in collegiate history.

Her time at the Payton Jordan Invite currently stands as the second-fastest 10K time in the world for the 2013 season.

Saina’s 5,000-meter time is currently the third fastest 5K time in the world and fifth fastest time in collegiate history which she ran at the Stanford Invitational earlier during the outdoor season.

Saina was originally named to the Watch List before the indoor season had started.
