ISU Theatre announces 2013-14 season

ISU Theatre said it had a sensational season for its performances this year, and the 2013-2014 lineup is looking to pose another promising year.

The plays to be featured have been selected from around the world, from Russia to Austria. Your heartstrings will be pulled by a timeless love story but expect to laugh out loud as well.

“The Seagull” was written by the 19th century Russian dramatist, Anton Chekhov. This play is centered on four main characters who are caught up in love triangles and their artistic works.

Being a comedy, laughter will be your companion for this performance.

The Broadway hit and recipient of a Tony Award is the musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The musical started as an improvisational play and was later turned into a scripted musical full of quirky characters struggling to spell their given words.

Shakespeare lovers, unite. If you were not required to read it in high school but are still curious about the influential “star-crossed lovers,” then don’t miss ISU Theatre’s performance of “Romeo and Juliet.”

Two teens battle it out with their families while declaring their love for one another; Shakespeare presents a plethora of relatable themes full of suspense, creating a work for the ages.

Musicians and those who enjoy music should mark their calendars for “Amadeus,” a play centered on — the mostly fictionalized — lives of “rival” musicians Mozart and Antonio Salieri. “Amadeus” falls under the tragedy genre and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Most of us may still be recovering from this year’s Veishea, but that’s no excuse not to get pumped for next year. “Into the Woods” is the official selection for Stars Over Veishea in 2014 and brings to life some of our most adored fairytales… with a twist.

Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella are just two characters who must face the consequences of their wishes while embarking on adventures.

“My Grandparents in the War” will be an original production directed and written by Iowa State’s very own Matt Foss.

Based on a true story, Foss focuses on his grandparents’ courtship and their personal experiences during WWII. He incorporates the hardships they faced afterward that will surely fill you with admiration, respect and love for those who grew up in that epoch.
