Quick Bite: Greek yogurt curbs appetite
April 3, 2013
Greek yogurt and other snacks high in protein are a great way to curb hunger.
“An afternoon snack of Greek yogurt, containing 24 [grams of] protein, led to reduced hunger, increased fullness and delayed subsequent eating compared to lower protein snacks,” according to a 2013 study published in the journal Appetite.
The study found that women who ate afternoon snacks with increased amounts of protein were less likely to overeat at dinner time.
It’s hard to find Greek yogurt with 24 grams of protein per serving, but most brands have more than 15 grams per serving. Look for nonfat versions to cut calories.
