Cyclones rout Sooners, earn berth in Big 12 Championship final

It was all smiles for Iowa State for most of Sunday afternoon.

The Cyclones defeated Oklahoma, 79-60 in the Big 12 Championship semifinal Sunday at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The win against the Sooners was the third of the season for Iowa State as the Cyclones swept Oklahoma in the regular season.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 10-7 lead off of a 3-pointer by forward Joanna McFarland with 16:22 left to play in the first half. After that, however, Iowa State took control of the game on both sides of the court.

The Cyclones went on a 32-9 run throughout the next 15 1/2 minutes of the game and forced the Sooners to end the first half with a shooting percentage of 27.6 percent.

During the second half, Iowa State did not allow Oklahoma to draw within 15 points which in turn allowed the Cyclones to earn a berth in the Big 12 Championship final for the first time since 2007.

Senior center Anna Prins led the way for her team Sunday scoring a career-high 32 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Forward Chelsea Poppens recorded another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while forward Hallie Christofferson chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Iowa State will square off with No. 1-seeded Baylor on Monday night at American Airlines Center in Dallas for the Big 12 Championship tournament title. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
