Iowa State loses to West Virginia in final seconds

Iowa State did something on Sunday it hasn’t usually done this season: Lose on its home floor.
No. 24 Iowa State lost in the closing seconds to West Virginia 68-66 on Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum despite turning in a 27-point effort from forward Hallie Christofferson. The loss by the Cyclones (18-6, 9-5 Big 12) was just the second home loss of the season for them.
After jumping out to a 10-0 lead, Iowa State allowed the Mountaineers (15-10, 7-7) to close the first half on a 10-4 run and go into the break with a 27-22 lead.
X-Factor
Hallie Christofferson— After a career performance against Oklahoma on Sunday, Christofferson responded again with a career-tying scoring day with 27 points. The junior shot 9-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Christofferson added six rebounds and surpassed 1,000 career points on Sunday, just the 25th ISU player to do so. Going into the game, she needed 23 to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Turning Point
With 1:53 left in the first half and Iowa State leading 23-12, West Virginia went on a 10-4 run after two 3s, a layup and two Bria Holmes free throws to close the gap to five points.
West Virginia continued to climb in the second half taking the lead at the 14:47 mark, 37-34. For the rest of the game, it was shot-for-shot before the Mountaineers were able to secure the win in the final seconds.
