Cyclones defeat Division III team 7-1 in home finale
February 23, 2013
The No. 12 ISU hockey team celebrated senior night Feb. 23 as defensemen Brandon Clark and Justin Wilkinson, forwards David Ellison, David Kurbatsky and Derek Kohles, and goalie Paul Karus played their final home game in an ISU jersey.
The seniors of the hockey team, cheer squad and pep band were introduced after the first period.
ISU forwards Jon Feavel and J.P. Kascsak had two goals each in the 7-1 win against the ISU Division III hockey team.
Just when it looked like it might be a tight game, the Division I team scored two quick goals late in the first period. ISU forward Austin Parle put the first point on the board 16:37 into the first period after jumping around a defender to catch a loose puck and sailing it past Division III goalie Mike Ness.
Just a minute later in the period, Ryan Reid scored again to put the Cyclones up 2-0. Karus stopped all 12 Division III shots in the first period.
The second period saw goals from Feavel, Kascsak and Trevor Lloyd for the Division I team and a goal by Kean Ludvicek for the Division III team. Division III goaltender was replaced late in the second period by Jeff Czaplewski and Karus stopped 5-of-6 shots as they went into the break with a 5-1 lead.
Feavel started the scoring early in the third period with his second of the night just 1:28 in. Kascsak scored his second of the night to put the Cyclones up 7-1. Matt Cooper replaced Karus in the third period and shut the Division III team out.
Up next for the Cyclones is the ACHA National Tournament in Bensenville, Ill. on March 1-6. The Cyclones will play No. 5 Robert Morris in the second round.
