Quick bite: heart health
February 12, 2013
A simple Valentine’s Day of dark chocolate and a glass of red wine can be healthy as well as romantic.
Drinking one to two glasses of red wine per day has cardiovascular benefits due to a slight increase in HDL (good) cholesterol. Those who drink wine in moderation, on average, live longer, according to a 2000 article published in the Annual Review of Nutrition.
Cocoa intake may reduce cardiovascular disease risk due to a combination of improved antioxidants and the dilation of blood vessels, according to an article published in 2008 by The Nutrition Reviews.
Toast to good health with chocolate and red wine this Valentine’s Day.
