ISD Style chooses the Oscars best dressed
February 25, 2013
We watched the Oscars for three things: Bradley Cooper in a tuxedo, living vicariously through Jennifer Lawrence, and of course, seeing the beautiful and the not so beautiful red carpet looks from my favorite celebrities.
Jennifer Lawrence
The Best Actress hopeful and the female population’s girl crush stunned the crowd in a sensational Dior Haute Couture gown with a long necklace that graced the back of her gown. Raving about Dance Moms and her gorgeous Silver Linings Playbook costar Bradley Cooper, Lawrence easily stole the Best Dressed spotlight of the evening. She completed her Oscars look with fresh, natural makeup and swept back hair.
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried has been one of our favorites since she played Karen Smith, but unfortunately her look wasn’t as fetch as I would have liked. She chose a white and gold Alexander McQueen number with a keyhole neckline. I am normally a fan of all things Alexander McQueen, but this didn’t quite do it for me. The fabric was beautiful, but the silhouette didn’t quite fit Seyfried’s frame. She even complained that the dress was extremely uncomfortable, which makes me question why she chose it in the first place.
Kerry Washington
Not only is Kerry Washington a diamond in the rough when it comes to her acting, but so is her style. I was completely wowed by her choice of a coral Miu Miu dress with a jewel encrusted bodice and Chobard jewels. Her dress was dramatic enough so she didn’t have to compromise with dramatic hair or makeup. The Django Unchained and Scandal star also presented with Jamie Foxx, and looked fabulous during the entire time.
Samantha Bark
Samantha Bark of Les Miserables fame is another hidden talent whose outfit choice was a pleasant surprise. She chose a simple black Valentino with a daring plunging neckline. Bark and the Les Miserables cast graced the stage with an incredible rendition of songs from the movie musical. We can’t wait to see what is next for this rising star!
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain was another disappointment of the evening. While many were raving about her choice of a copper and nude sequin mesh gown by Armani Prive. “I wanted to channel Old Hollywood, and it’s a very ‘Happy birthday, Mr. President’ dress”, said the Best Actress nominee. Although it’s very clean and classic, I thought Chastain could have picked something a little more regal. I wasn’t a fan of the way the dress was the exact same shade of her hair, which in my opinion made her look washed out. It wasn’t my favorite look, but she still made it work.
Anne Hathaway
The biggest let down of the evening came from Les Miserables star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Anne Hathaway. We expected a dress to match the caliber of Les Mis, but she arrived in a pale pink Prada dress that reminded me of something that came from my aunt’s bridal party in the early nineties. Although she tried to jazz it up with Tiffany jewels, she wasn’t able to make it work. Hathaway said her mom helped picked it out, which might explain the drab. We don’t think even pre-princess Mia Thermopolis would have approved.
