Men’s golf saves best for last, finishes 10th in San Antonio

The ISU men’s golf team shot a final round score of 292 and finished 10th out of 14 teams at the UTSA Oak Ridge Invitational with a team score of 899 (304-303-292).

The men jumped three teams (Texas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Houston Baptist) in the third and final round of competition. After two rounds on Monday, Iowa State trailed Houston Baptist by 9 strokes.

Oklahoma finished first with a team score of 862, with North Texas (863) and Baylor (869) placing second and third.

Individually, all Cyclone golfers saved the best for last, each shooting their best round on the final day of competition. The team was led by Scott Fernandez who finished tied for 3rd individually with a three-round score of 211 (72-70-69). 

The team score was rounded out with Sam Daley (77-75-73=225), Collin Foster (76-79-73=228) and Duncan Croudis (79-79-77=235).

The Cyclones will travel to Phoenix to play in the annual Big Four Match, pitting the four major Iowa golf programs (Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake) against each other in a head-to-head exhibition tournament on Feb. 15.
