No. 1 Baylor takes it to No. 25 Iowa State in Big 12 brawl
January 10, 2013
No. 1 Baylor did what it did best at Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas, to cruise to yet another Big 12 victory as it knocked off No. 25 Iowa State 67-39.
Going into the game, the Cyclones (11-2, 2-1 Big 12) knew they would have to find a way to close off the Lady Bears’ (13-1, 3-0 Big 12) Brittney Griner. Unable to do so, Griner went 10-of-20 in field goals for 23 of the Bears’ 67 points.
Iowa State’s Nikki Moody, the nation’s assist leader, led her team with 11 points.
Iowa State battled the entire game from tipoff to the buzzer. At halftime, the Cyclones were down 35-19.
With less than average 3-point shooting, the Cyclones were 9-25 from behind the arc, while the Bears were only 1-5 throughout the whole game. The Bears were able to outscore their opponent in the paint however, shooting 28-62 in field goals, while Iowa State shot just 13-41.
Iowa State will face TCU for the first time this season on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
