McGee provides burst off bench in victory against Campbell
November 18, 2012
In its first game of the Global Sports Classic, Iowa State ousted Campbell 88-68 at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday night.
Tyrus McGee came off the bench for 16 points and 5 rebounds in the victory, with Will Clyburn pitching in 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Senior Chris Babb got the start after serving his three-game suspension for violating team rules, allowing McGee to come of the bench for the first time this season. Babb finished with 13 points, including a pair of the team’s 11 total 3-pointers.
Since coach Fred Hoiberg took over the team in 2010, his squad has made at least 10 3-pointers 29 times.
Michigan State transfer Korie Lucious has raised some questions over the past couple of weeks with his high turnover numbers. The senior silenced his critics on Sunday with just one turnover and nine assists.
Darren White led Campbell (2-2, 0-0 Big South) with 20 points, three below his season average, and recorded six blocks.
Next up for the Cyclones will be North Carolina A&T on Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
