FOOTBALL: Iowa State 38, Kansas 17 (Halftime)
November 17, 2012
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Iowa State leads Kansas 38-17 at halftime from Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kan.
The game began with a fumble by each team before Iowa State (5-5, 2-5 Big 12) settled for a field goal after its fumble recovery.
Sam Richardson saw his first meaningful series as an ISU quarterback. The redshirt freshman led the offense 89 yards in a drive that concluded with a touchdown run by running back Jeff Woody to take a 10-7 lead to conclude the first quarter.
Kansas (1-9, 0-7) broke for its second of two touchdown runs — a 55-yard scramble by Tony Pierson at the beginning of the second quarter — to pull ahead 14-10.
Richardson responded, however, with an 11-yard strike to Albert Gary to re-take the lead 17-14 early in the second.
A fumble by Kansas on the next drive gave the Cyclones more points off turnovers in the form of a 40-yard strike from Richardson to Aaron Horne.
Overall, Richardson went 11-for-14 for 151 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
Iowa State will kick off to begin the second half.
